Our Story

It’s 2007 and quality watermelon is nowhere to be found.

Founders George, Carr, and Paul set out on a mission to connect consumers and commercial purchasers with the finest and freshest watermelon this country has to offer. With over 100 years of combined industry experience Sweet Mama’s dedication to quality is a commitment. A brand promise consistently supported by rigorous quality control measures, state-of-the-art production and continuous improvement through innovation all while respecting the environment in which our products are grown and packed.

No fancy story here. It all began over lunch.

No outside investors. No consultants. Just 3 industry “vets” sitting around a table. Eager and enthusiastic to move the needle within the produce supply chain, the group decide to dive head first into the watermelon business. To them it sounded fairly straightforward. A simple equation really... It went something like this...


We Grow and Distribute fruit with no B.S.

Our philosophy to the business is simple; focus on the fruit and the customers while respecting the earth and all else will follow. That is why we do what we do without cutting corners. Quality is paramount to the success of our business and the happiness of our customers. If the fruit does not meet our exceptionally high standards, we don’t ship it. As we always say, "we aren’t in the business of growing watermelon because we are in the business of raising it". Full transparency. No B.S.

Oh. And the meaning behind the name...

That’s what you heard when you called Paul's phone. Greeting or Voicemail, that didn't matter. It was always "TALK TO ME SWEET MAMA!"Carr and George thought it was catchy and the rest was history.
